If possible please tell me who to go to and who to stay away from. My brother in law want to consolodate his credit card debt.

The best way to go is to just refinance and do debt consolidation that way.
If not I would not suggest that he goes with a credit counselor it damages credit more then a bankruptcy. He should try to work with the credit companies himself.

Going into a debt management program affects your credit score pretty much like filing bankrutpcy. The difference being that once you complete the program, you will have a good payment history.
It is a very bad idea to shift credit card debt to another loan, expecially into your mortgage. Not only do you end up paying a lot more interest due to the extended time, but if you can’t pay, they take your home.
