Women's summit tackles work, home life - Charlotte Observer- About: How Pay Advances Work


A corps of volunteers and civic leaders pledged to help women better balance their work and family life — and improve the community as a result — as a Charlotte women’s conference concluded Thursday. The daylong conference at UNC Charlotte drew more than 600 women, and a few men, from across the community, representing all ages and races and attracting a variety of business, government, education and nonprofit groups. The event drew some of the best known local women from those sectors, including former Springs Industries CEO Crandall Bowles, county commission chairman Jennifer Roberts and United Way of Central Carolinas president Gloria King. Within the next year, Dubois said, organizers hope to have completed a feasibility study for establishing a local women’s political leadership institute and hire a full-time attorney to work on domestic violence issues and oversee Charlotte School of Law students that will work in a clinic.
