Nigeria: Public Varsities Far Better, Says Prof Tukur - AllAfrica.com- About: How Pay Advances Work
Tukur is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, for almost five years and is now due for retirement next month (November). One of his major achievements was the bold step taken to partially move the university from the Bosso Campus to the permanent site in Gidan Kwano and his ability to maintain high level of discipline in the institution in the past five years. My tenure here has been very challenging because the first thing that struck me when I came for interaction with the search team was the fact that you have a university with about 5,000 students who are choked up within a small place which cannot accommodate up to 3,000 students. Here I will be able to leave the university with 80% or more programmes fully accredited by the National University Commission (NUC) and their professional bodies. Fortunately, we have the permanent site with a lot of structures started but somehow, the economy turned down and the university could not move to its permanent site. Learn more
