(Cash Before Payday) It won’t be long before Romo hits pay dirt… guaranteed (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

That Web site quoted an NFL source as saying Romo’s high-profile agent, Tom Condon, is asking the Cowboys for a new contract that would include guaranteed money in excess of $30 million. According to the Web site, Jerry Jones has given Condon a “no” answer, and Romo told our Valley Ranch man, Clarence Hill, the story wasn’t true, then added, “but I’ll take it,” meaning the $30 mil. What ended up in my e-mail stack was a split decision among fans who either thought Romo didn’t deserve that kind of payday, or Jones was stupid for ever allowing Romo’s new contract to reach this point. By not wrapping up the Romo contract negotiations over the summer, Jerry has definitely cost himself a lot of money (maybe as much as $10 million so far this month), and also cost himself some salary cap flexibility. Condon (also the agent for Peyton) is asking for $30 mil, he’s taking a read off Bulger, not Peyton, and also off the current market, and also off Jerry Jones’ long-standing desperation over the quarterback position.
